PEUGEOT UPDATES 208 AND E-208 WITH A NEW DESIGN, POWERTRAINS AND TECHNOLOGIES

6th July 2023

PEUGEOT has updated the 208 and E-208 with a new design, new powertrains and technologies across both fully electric and petrol variants. The 208 was the best-selling car in Europe in 2022, with the new updates ensuring it will remain a favourite with buyers. Orders for the new 208 and E-208 will open in October 2023.

When it arrives later this year, the new PEUGEOT 208 will deliver:

  • More Allure with an irresistible sporty look featuring a new, more modern, PEUGEOT light signature.
  • More Emotion with an enhanced digital PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® that boosts driving pleasure.
  • More Excellence with electrification in its DNA and a new E-208, offering a range of 248 miles (under approval), new HYBRID 100 and HYBRID 136 engines and the latest generation of PEUGEOT infotainment systems.

More than a million 208 models have been sold since the model’s launch at the end of 2019, with the 208 as the best-selling car in Europe in both 2021 and 2022. This success is due in no small part to the success of the 100% electric E-208. In 2022, the E-208 became Europe's best-selling electric car in the B segment.

Jérôme Micheron, PEUGEOT Product Director: "Working on a model as iconic and successful as the 208 is always a tall order. Our aim was to take the design and performance of the 208 to a higher level while preserving the soul of this model in order to remain at the top of B-segment sales in Europe. The new 208 is more 208 than ever: more feline, more fun to drive, more technological, and all-in-all, more irresistible.”

Simplified line-up: To make it easier for customers to find the right model, PEUGEOT has streamlined the choice of trims available across 208 and E-208 with both models available in ACTIVE, ALLURE, and GT.

  • ACTIVE variants feature PEUGEOT’s new front and rear light signatures and come standard with a 10-inch central touchscreen and Wireless MirrorScreen technology
  • ALLURE models add 16-inch ‘NOMA’ alloy wheels and a body-coloured grille with front and rear parking assistance and electrically folding door mirrors. A 10-inch digital instrument panel and 10-inch HD central touchscreen together with PEUGEOT i-Connect is also featured.

GT variants add Full LED headlights, 17-inch ‘YANAKA’ alloy wheels, high-definition reversing parking camera, PEUGEOT Open & Go keyless entry and start and renewed customisable eight-colour ambient lighting.

Allure: An eye-catching, athletic design

The challenge facing PEUGEOT's designers was how to deliver a new level of modernity and a new edge to the 208 while protecting the distinctive, irresistible allure that has made it such a success. This was achieved via the following new features:

  • New PEUGEOT front light signature: First introduced on the 9X8 Hypercar, the new 508 and 508 SW, then recently on the new 2008, the new PEUGEOT light signature now also adorns the new 208 and E-208. The three long vertical light claws are a distinctive element of this signature and are integrated into the gloss black inserts on the bumper. They have been shifted towards the outer edge of the car and help to give the 208 a broader appearance.

All new 208 models feature this new front-light signature. On GT versions, this light feature goes even further. The striking effect of the three light claws is extended into the lighting function of the full LED headlamps using three independent optical modules.

  • A front end with a new look: All new 208 models feature an all-new front end, pushing the 208 into the new era of PEUGEOT design with the brand's new logo at its centre. The grille features an evolving body-coloured pattern which now further extends into the bumper. The grille and body are no longer compartmentalised but form a whole.

  • A redesigned rear light signature: The new 208 reinvents the brand’s familiar rear light signature comprising of three individual red claws now arranged horizontally. They comprise three elegant lines of LEDs that extend across the black strip around the boot lid and give the car a more commanding rear view, and contribute to a perception of greater width. On GT variants, the reversing lights and indicators are also LED.

  • Striking new colours: The new 208 and E-208 are available in seven body colours, two of which are new. Agueda Yellow is new for 208 while Selenium Grey has been added for the first time. The seven colours available across the model ranges are Agueda Yellow, Selenium Grey, Cumulus Grey, Nera Black, Bianca White, Elixir Red and Vertigo Blue. All new 208 models feature gloss black door mirrors, irrespective of the colour chosen, and the GT variants come as standard with gloss black wheel arches.

  •  New wheel designs: A standout feature of the new 208 is the new alloy wheel designs inspired by the new 408. The new designs include 16-inch ‘NOMA’ diamond-cut two-tone wheels for ALLURE trim and 17-inch ‘YANAKA’ diamond-cut two-tone wheels with inserts for GT. All alloy wheels feature a new four-spoke centre cap, prominently featuring the PEUGEOT shield which also neatly conceals the wheel bolts.

  • New PEUGEOT brand identity: The front, side and rear nameplates on the new 208 feature new lettering finished in a new Basalt Grey colour. At the rear, the PEUGEOT lettering now stands alone across the entire width of the black panel connecting the rear LED lights. The E-208 has been given a new ‘E’ badge featuring a two-tone Dichroic and White finish.

  • Elegant new fabrics: Across all trims, PEUGEOT has refreshed the interior ambience with new fabrics and stitchings. A new optional seat fabric is also introduced for GT variants which features Black Alcantara® with Adamite Green stitching, matching the Adamite Green stitching across the dashboard on GT models.

Emotion: Improved PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® adds to the driving experience

It was on the first generation 208 that PEUGEOT introduced its iconic i-Cockpit®. Today, it is even more advanced, connected and ergonomic, and remains at the heart of the driving pleasure provided by the new PEUGEOT 208 and E-208. It comes with:

  • New design for the digital instrument panel: The instrument panel is ideally located at the driver's eye level and features a digital display on the ALLURE and GT versions. Its generous 10-inch digital screen has a new design and, on GT versions, a 3D display as standard. Drivers can customise the colour of the display, as well as the layout and presentation. On ACTIVE variants, the new 208 retains an analogue instrument cluster with a 3.5-inch colour screen.

  • i-Connect: 208 ALLURE and GT models now come standard with PEUGEOT i-Connect, with the option to upgrade to i-Connect Advanced which features live TomTom navigation and natural voice recognition.

  • 10-inch touchscreen across all models: The large 10-inch touchscreen can now be found standard across all 208 models which is a significant upgrade over the previous 7-inch screen. On ALLURE and GT models, the 10-inch touchscreen is upgraded to High-Definition and is paired with  PEUGEOT’s next-generation i-Connect infotainment system. The quick access toggles are retained under the central screen for easy access to features such as climate control and ADAS.

  • Compact steering wheel: At the heart of the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® sits the compact steering wheel offering unequalled agility and precision and now incorporating the new PEUGEOT shield at its centre and, where appropriate, the new GT logo on the lower part of its rim. For optimum ergonomics, it houses the controls for the multimedia system (audio, telephone) as well as volume and voice control.

  • Dynamic ambient lighting on GT versions: Drivers have a choice of eight colours to set their preferred interior ambience.

  • Revised gear shifter design: New 208 models equipped with PEUGEOT’s five and six-speed manual transmissions have a new gear shifter design for improved ergonomics. E-208 and 208 automatic versions retain the elegant ‘e-Toggle’ design introduced last year.
