Research by PEUGEOT UK* has revealed how far Brits are predicted to drive over the upcoming Spring Bank Holiday weekend. With 32% of drivers, approximately 13.5 million people†, making travel plans involving their car, and each driver set to cover an average of 149 miles, Brits are estimated to drive a combined two billion miles between 24 and 27 May.

The brand’s findings indicate that younger people are more likely to be behind the wheel over the bank holiday weekend, with 51% of 18–24-year-olds making travel plans involving their car versus 20% of those aged 65 and over. Over half (54%) of Londoners say they will be driving, compared to just 17% of people in Scotland.

Seeing friends and family (52%), visiting an outdoor location such as the seaside (29%), and going on a staycation or weekend break (26%) are the top three reasons for people planning to use their car over the May bank holiday weekend. Compared to other regions, Londoners are most likely to be using their car to commute to and from work (31%) but are also equally likely to be driving to see friends and family (60%).

PEUGEOT’s research also revealed the average maximum distance people would be willing to drive during a bank holiday weekend is 168 miles. PEUGEOT is committed to offering the best and most efficient electric driving range figures on the market, with the new, all-electric E-3008 with the 73kWh battery providing a range of 326 miles (WLTP) meaning the majority of Brits could do all their bank holiday travel on a single charge.

The research also highlighted that people are willing to drive approximately 2 and a half hours on average before taking a break during a long journey. When taking a break, drivers reported resting for an average of 25 minutes. The new PEUGEOT E-3008 can be recharged from 20–80% in just 20 minutes from a 160kW charger, enabling drivers to recharge their car during a typical break.

To pass the time during a long journey, almost one in five drivers (18%) said they and their passengers play games such as quizzes and ‘I Spy’. PEUGEOT is one of the first car manufacturers to integrate ChatGPT artificial intelligence into its vehicles, which can not only answer questions but also engage in conversation, suggest the best places to visit in a new city and even organise quizzes. Integrated into the infotainment of the innovative PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®, ChatGPT is available on the latest-generation PEUGEOT models equipped with connected navigation.

PEUGEOT already offers the widest electric line-up of any mainstream European manufacturer, which is set to grow to 12 models by the end of this year. The recently revealed new E-5008 is the only model in its segment to offer 100% electric mobility for seven passengers with a choice of powertrains and is capable of up to 410 miles of range (WLTP cycle under approval).
