Title

New ŠKODA Superb Estate

What Car? named the ŠKODA SUPERB Estate as the Best estate car as part of the 2019 What Car? Car of the Year awards.

Offering even more interior space than its already roomy hatchback sibling, the Superb Estate comes with much critical acclaim, plenty of standard equipment and a comfortable cabin. This handsome family car is also available in a number of trim levels, ranging from S to Laurin & Klement (L&K) grades.

Exterior design

The five-door Superb Estate features several attractive features, such as a black-framed radiator grille and similarly-hued roof rails. The vehicle rides on 16-inch alloy wheels as standard, each of which is fitted with anti-theft bolts. Subtly stylish colour-coded fixtures include door handles and power-adjustable and heated door mirrors, the latter with integrated indicator lights. Further exterior lighting includes daytime running lights, front fog lamps and LED rear lights.

Interior design

A spacious five-seat cabin provides the driver with a leather-clad multifunction steering wheel. This channels power steering and is accompanied by a range of useful features, such as an electromechanical parking brake. Also included as standard are air conditioning, power-operated front and rear windows and a rear windscreen wiper. Smart stowage provision, such as an illuminated and cooling glove compartment, a front armrest-concealed box and an overhead parcel shelf, are featured too. A 660-litre boot compartment should be big enough for most. However, if more capacity is needed, 1,950 litres becomes available when rear seats are folded.

Performance

The Superb Estate is installed with a 1.4-litre 125bhp petrol engine as standard. This delivers up to 52.3mpg and a 126g/km CO2 emissions figure. The most eco-friendly option is a 1.6-litre 120bhp diesel unit that returns as much as 76.4mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 97g/km. Supplying optimal performance levels, L&K trims are fitted with a 2.0-litre petrol engine that produces 280bhp, 350Nm of torque and 0-60mph in around six seconds. All models come with regenerative braking and automatic start/stop.

Technology and safety

An eight-speaker sound system includes DAB radio and an FM/AM tuner. Also featured as standard are Bluetooth, SD, USB and AUX connectivity and a five-inch touchscreen display screen.

The Superb Estate comes with Euro NCAP’s maximum five-star crash-test rating, and driver aids such as Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control, Multi-collision Braking and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. Height-adjustable seats (complete with head restraints), front seatbelt reminders, ISOFIX child-seat attachments, childproof locks and a seven-airbag system are among a range of passive safety elements featured as standard.
