MG Motor UK recorded its best-ever August sales performance, registering 4,960 vehicles and achieving a 5.26% market share – its highest monthly share of 2026 and enough to place the brand third in the UK sales rankings for the month.
The result continues a strong run for MG, which has recorded consecutive record-breaking monthly performances from April to August. Year-to-date sales have reached 60,904 vehicles, up from 50,817 during the same period in 2025.
The MG HS was a key contributor, finishing August as the UK’s third best-selling car and sixth best-selling model year-to-date. Its combination of practicality, technology and a choice of powertrains – including petrol, Hybrid+ and Plug-in Hybrid – continues to appeal to customers looking for a versatile family SUV.
MG also remains the UK’s second best-selling brand for hybrid cars, supported by its growing range of Hybrid+ and Plug-in Hybrid models. Alongside these, MG offers a broad selection of fully electric vehicles, giving customers electrified options across multiple vehicle segments from B to E.
The strength of the range has also been recognised by What Car?, with MG picking up three awards at the What Car? Electric Car Awards 2026:
The awards highlight the breadth of MG’s offering, from the compact and accessible MG4 EV Urban through to the family-focused HS PHEV and seven-seat MGS9 PHEV.
David Allison, Director of Product and Planning, MG Motor UK, said: “The MG brand and product offering continues to go from strength to strength, and we are extremely proud to have achieved a top three ranking for our UK sales performance in August. The demand for our cars reflects the continuing growth of our brand appeal and the breadth of our product line-up. Our multi-powertrain offerings across a broad range of vehicle sectors make the MG portfolio among the strongest on the market today.”
