Chery International is planning to begin building fast-charging and energy storage stations in the UK from 2027, as the automotive group looks to strengthen the infrastructure supporting its growing range of electrified vehicles.
The plans were announced at the group’s International User Summit in Wuhu, China, with the UK joining Spain and Thailand as markets earmarked for new charging infrastructure. The network is intended to support the increasing number of customers choosing Chery’s plug-in hybrid and fully electric models.
Further details, including the number and location of stations, charging speeds, investment levels and delivery partners, have yet to be confirmed.
Supporting Chery’s UK growth
The infrastructure announcement comes as Chery prepares to expand its UK brand portfolio further. iCAUR is scheduled to arrive in early 2027, joining OMODA, JAECOO, Chery and LEPAS.
Gary Lan, Chief Executive of Chery International UK, said the group’s recent growth in Europe demonstrated the strength of its products and the work of its teams and partners. He added that the planned charging network, alongside new models and greater overseas production, reflected Chery’s long-term commitment to the markets in which it operates.
For UK customers, the plans are intended to provide greater vehicle choice alongside the infrastructure needed to support the growing adoption of electrified models.
New models and overseas production
The summit also saw five global vehicle premieres, including the OMODA X concept, the all-new TIGGO 7, Chery TIGGO X7, iCAUR V25 and LEPAS Aura concept. UK launch dates for the production models have not yet been confirmed.
Chery also outlined its ambition to manufacture a greater proportion of vehicles in the overseas markets where they are sold. Executive Vice President Zhang Guibing said local production currently accounts for around 48% of the group’s overseas sales, with this expected to exceed 50% by the end of 2026.
The target is to increase this figure to 60% in 2027 and 70% by 2030, forming part of Chery’s wider global expansion strategy.
