Toyota Shows its Intrepid Side at the Adventure Travel Film Festival

17 August 2021

From the city-storming new hybrid electric Yaris to the mountain-topping Land Cruiser, Toyota showed attendees at the Adventure Travel Film Festival that it offers a vehicle for any expedition, however big or small.

As headline partner of the event – a showcase for films that document adventurous journeys undertaken by independent film makers – Toyota took the opportunity to demonstrate the features of some of its latest models, including a newly converted Proace Matino camper.

The festival, held last weekend, 13-15 August, in the picturesque grounds of Hatherop Castle School, Cirencester, is the brainchild of adventurers, Lois Pryce and Austin Vince, and is a celebration of travel that brings together filmmakers from around the world. Its diverse programme showcases journeys undertaken using all manner of transport, this year including kayaks, cars, bicycles and even a 41-day ocean crossing on a self-built, motorcycle-propelled raft.

Lois Pryce, co-curator of the festival, sees the partnership with Toyota as a natural fit: “When you think of the most hardened vehicles that can be used in all conditions, you think of Toyotas,” she said.

“The Land Cruiser has been conquering far-flung landscapes for 70 years and, having travelled through some of the world’s remotest regions, I fully appreciate the quality, durability and reliability associated with Toyota’s off-road heritage. It certainly looked like the people I saw with Land Cruisers in the desert didn’t need to replace them often!”

For those who like their adventures to come with a little more relaxation, Toyota used the Adventure Travel Film Festival to reveal its newly converted Proace Matino camper, created by award-winning conversion partner Wellhouse Leisure. Based on the medium wheelbase, high-power, eight-speed diesel automatic Proace, the four-berth, pop-top camper comes with creature comforts including a Webasto heater with mobile app controls, two-burner hob and sink unit, 25-litre fridge, touch-screen controlled LED mood lighting and 100W solar panel.
