Compact and versatile, the Toyota Verso is an adept city cruiser that manages to provide space for up to seven passengers. This good-to-drive mini-MPV is available in Active, Icon and Design trim lines.
The neatly styled Verso is adorned with a number of eye-catching features, such as a smart rear spoiler, chrome highlights on the vehicle’s rear fascia and body-coloured door fixtures (the latter including electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors). The vehicle is fitted with 16-inch steel wheels as standard but Icon grades feature alloys of the same size. Design trims, meanwhile, feature 17-inch alloy wheels. Standard illumination includes dusk-sensing headlights (with courtesy delay facility), daytime running lights, front fog lamps and a high-mounted LED brake light.
Open one of the Verso’s five doors to discover a three-spoke steering wheel (which is rake-and-reach-adjustable) and gear shift knob, both of which are leather-clad. The driver is treated to an adjustable position, and both front seats offer recline-and-slide functionality, too. Other standard features include power-operated front windows (with automatic up-down facility), air conditioning and stowage space such as an illuminated glovebox and an overhead console. The Verso possesses a 157-litre boot space. This can be increased to 658 litres (with the third row folded) and as much as 1,655 litres (with the second and third rows folded).
A 1.6-litre 132bhp petrol engine is fitted as standard. Paired with six-speed manual transmission, this delivers up to 41.5mpg and a 154g/km CO2 emissions figure. Models fitted with a 1.6-litre 110bhp diesel unit offer optimal fuel efficiency: as much as 62mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 119g/km.
A four-speaker sound system includes an FM/AM radio and CD player, which can be operated safely and easily thanks to steering wheel-mounted audio controls. USB and AUX inputs and MP3 and WMA playback are included too. Icon and Design trims add two more loudspeakers, DAB radio, a Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system and a Bluetooth interface.
The Verso has been awarded Euro NCAP’s highest five-star safety rating, and comes with driver aids such as an Anti-lock Braking system, Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control. Passive safety features include a seven-airbag system, ISOFIX attachments and seatbelt pre-tensioners and force-limiters.
