Now in its fourth generation, the boldly designed Toyota Prius is simple to drive and offers admirable running costs too. The world’s first mass-produced petrol-electric hybrid car also possesses an attractive cabin, a large boot and is available in Active, Business Edition, Business Edition Plus and Excel trim levels.
The five-door Prius certainly grabs attention with its futuristic looks. This stylishly angular car is also adorned with plenty of striking features, such as standard-issue 15-inch five-double-spoke alloy wheels. Also included are body-coloured fixtures that include door handles and door mirrors that are also power-adjustable, auto-retractable and heated. Exterior illumination includes follow-me-home LED headlights, chrome-trimmed front fog lamps, LED daytime running lights and LED brake lights.
With Toyota’s Smart Entry system, it’s easy to gain access to the Prius – you just need to ensure that you have the key on your person. The vehicle’s five-seat cabin is well-appointed, featuring, for instance, a Piano Black centre console and chrome finishes on side air vents and interior door handles. Engine ignition is achieved at a simple push of a button, and other labour-saving features include power-operated front and rear windows with one-touch and anti-trap functionality. Also included as standard are dual-zone automatic air conditioning and a 12-volt power socket at both the front and the rear. The vehicle possesses a considerable 502-litre boot space, too.
The Prius is powered by a 1.8-litre petrol-electric engine. Paired with automatic transmission, this returns as much as 94.1mpg and produces CO2 emissions as low as 70g/km. Not only is the vehicle extremely fuel-efficient, it is also able to go from 0-60mph in approximately 10.8 seconds.
The Prius comes with a six-speaker Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system, a seven-inch display screen, DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity and USB and AUX inputs. Audio and telecommunication functions can be safely and easily operated using steering wheel-mounted controls.
The vehicle has been awarded a five-star crash-test rating by Euro NCAP. Driver aids include an Anti-lock Braking System, Lane Departure Alert (with steering control), Adaptive Cruise Control and Pre-collision System with Pedestrian Detection. Among the car’s range of passive safety features are seatbelt reminders, seatbelt pre-tensioners and force-limiters, seven airbags, ISOFIX fixtures and childproof door locks.
