The new Toyota Hilux is now in its eight generation and is more comfortable and capacious than ever. This very capable pick-up comes in Active, Icon, Invincible and Invincible X trim lines, each of which are available with Double Cab and Single Cab body styles. Extra Cab iterations are an option with Active grades only.
Black is the signature hue of the Hilux, and it informs the vehicle’s upper front grille, bumpers, door handles and door mirrors. The latter are power-adjustable and heated and feature integrated indicator lights. Further illumination includes dusk-sensing headlights with follow-me-home functionality, and daytime running lights. Icon grades and above are fashioned with a chrome radiator grille.
When natural light is low or non-existent, illuminated entry lights ensure easy access to the vehicle’s cab. Inside, standard features include a four-spoke steering wheel, which offers tilt-and-telescopic adjustability. This is leather-wrapped with Icon trims and above, which also provide the driver with a height-adjustable seat. Also included are front and rear electric windows and air conditioning that comes with a clean/pollen air filter. A range of cubby spaces, such as a lockable glove compartment and a refrigerated cool box, are also featured.
A 2.4-litre diesel engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox (automatic transmission is also available). This produces 150bhp and 400Nm of torque. The Hilux offers a minimum payload of 1,100kg and can pull at least 3,200kg (unbraked).
This pick-up truck’s sound system features two speakers (or four, depending on the engine option selected, while six loudspeakers are included with Icon grades and above). All models come with an MP3/WMA-compatible CD player, an FM/AM radio and Bluetooth, USB and AUX connectivity.
Multimedia and telephone controls are located on the vehicle’s steering wheel for ease of use. All but Active trims include DAB radio, Toyota Touch 2 and a seven-inch display screen.
Anti-lock Braking System, Vehicle Stability Control, Trailer Sway Control and Hill-start Assist Control are among the vehicle’s driver aids. Passive safety elements such as a seven-airbag system, seatbelt pre-tensioners and load-limiters, whiplash-minimising front seats and ISOFIX attachments are standard inclusions. Icon trims and higher also feature childproof locks.
