The first new Nissan hatchback in nearly a decade, the Pulsar is a strong and reliable mid-size family car that is more than equipped to take on all competitors on the market.
It only takes a quick look at the Nissan Pulsar to see that it is a car that has been built to handle anything that day-to-day life can throw at it. It's eminently practical, with a classic style giving it an understated air that makes it perfect for town and city driving. The Pulsar takes a few of its cues from the all-new Nissan Micra, including the narrow grille's chrome bars and the chic, angular headlamp casings.
Unsurprisingly, the Nissan Pulsar feels every inch a quality vehicle, with sturdy materials and robust plastics. The driving position can be easily adjusted for reach and rake, and there's also a wide range of equipment available with the entry-level model, including steering wheel-mounted stereo controls. Upgrading to higher specs such as Acenta, N-Connecta and Tekna will also give you features such as satellite navigation, DAB digital radio and a 360-degree parking camera mounted on the roof.
The Nissan Pulsar comes with a choice of three engines; two petrol units and a diesel unit. The petrol engines on offer are a 1.2-litre turbo with 113bhp or a 1.6-litre alternative which can draw on 187bhp. With the ability to hit 60mph in just over ten seconds however, the entry-level 1.2-litre unit is likely to be the petrol engine of choice for many buyers. The diesel option is a 1.5-litre turbo diesel that comes backed by 108bhp. It's by far the most economical choice, returning a fuel economy of 78.5mpg with just 94g/km of CO2.
The Nissan Pulsar carries a five-star crash-safety rating from the experts at Euro NCAP, a testament to the build quality of the car and the safety equipment included. Six airbags come included as standard, along with stability control and a custom speed limiter. You can also upgrade your trim to include the Safety Shield, adding Forward Emergency Braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and a 360-degree parking camera.
